Marriage Amendment

Today in institute, we were in Chapter 19 of Matthew and we were talking about marriage. Then we got on the subject of the marriage amendment. I was so surprised that there were a handful that was against it. Our institute teacher brought up the fact that the church endorsed it and said that marriage is between a man and a woman. Even then, some of the people in my class had a hard time understanding why our church could be so cruel and be for something that would take away the rights of individuals that don't feel that marriage should be between a man and a woman.
I was on the end of my seat, because this is something that i feel so passionate about. I love debates! Then i raised my hand and commented... I said that I know that this is the true church and our leaders are called of God. They reveal to us God's will. They are our watchmen up on the tower and are able to see a ripple out in the ocean before it becomes a tidal wave. The prophet obviously sees something that we don't, such as this marriage issue will crumble our religious freedom and our whole judicial system like it has done in other nations already. So it is up to us to follow him. The Lord said that their would be a weeding out among the saints... those that follow the prophet and those that don't. Either he is a prophet of God or he's not... I know that we do have a prophet today that leads us, and i hope to always be found on his and the Lord's side....
I know that Heavenly Father as well as our prophet loves all people including those who have chosen different paths, and this isn't about hurting their feelings or being cruel... but it is about saving families. When the family crumbles, so will society.
